Use these exercises to practice writing full, simple sentences using target vocabulary and correct A1 grammar structures.

Writing Exercises

1. Personal Descriptions: My Home Inventory 🏠

Write five simple sentences describing your home or room. You must use the Simple Present tense (is/are) and at least three of these adjectives: large, small, clean, old, modern, colourful.


Model Answer Structure (Simple Present Tense): *Compare your sentences above to check your word order (Subject + is/are + Adjective) and use of the Simple Present tense.*

2. Opposites and Negatives: Transformation Practice 🔄

Rewrite each sentence to use the opposite adjective and the word "not." (You only need to type the final word.)

1. The dog is large. → The dog is not...


2. The tea was good. → The tea was not...


3. She is happy. → She is not...


3. Creative Application: The Secret of the Little Cat 🐱

Write a short story (5-6 sentences). Use the Simple Past or Simple Present tense. You must use one adjective from each group below:

1. Appearance: little or long or blue

2. Personality: shy or brave or curious

3. Object: dirty or white


Model Story Example:

Today, I saw a little cat. Its eyes were blue. At first, it was very shy. It looked at a man with dirty shoes. Then, the cat became brave. The man gave the cat a white cloth to play with.
